INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF
A  COURSE IN  MIRACLES:
WHO WE ARE
Founded in September of 2006, The Institute For The Study Of A Course In Miracles was created in order to:

(A)	teach and investigate all facets of A Course In Miracles from the dogma-free perspective outlined here; and

(B)	examine A Course In Miracles in light of the world’s great wisdom traditions; i.e., spiritual traditions that reflect the philosophia perennis.1 These would include, for example, the four schools of Vajrayana Buddhism–Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya and Gelug; lineages within the Theravada and Mahayana Buddhist traditions; Advaita Vedanta; Sufism; Taoism; Christian mysticism; the mystical component of Judaism known as Kabbalah; Shamanism and the Hellenistic philosophy known as Stoicism among others.2

The two functions of The Institute For The Study Of A Course In Miracles–teaching & investigative study:

1.	The Teaching Component

Our teaching facility is located in the foothills of the Himalayan mountains, Dharamsala, India. Lectures and retreats primarily focus upon issues of practice. For our schedule, and details regarding location, kindly click on the “Events” tab of our primary website, www.ACIM.name.

2.	Investigative Study

Investigative studies by psychologists, psychiatrists, spiritual teachers and independent scholars from a variety of fields, fulfilling mission statements “A” and “B” above, may be found on our primary website, www.ACIM.name.

1. Aldous Huxley popularized the term, “philosophia perennis” in his book of the same name (The Perennial Philosophy, 1945). Huxley writes, “Philosophia Perennis – the phrase was coined by Leibniz; but the thing––the metaphysic that recognizes a divine Reality substantial to the world of things and lives and minds; the psychology that finds in the soul something similar to, or even identical with, divine Reality; the ethic that places man’s final end in the knowledge of the immanent and transcendent Ground of all being––the thing is immemorial and universal.”

Roger Walsh, MD, PhD (FULL BIO) refers to the perennial philosophy as the sophia commonalis and describes it as “the common core of wisdom and philosophy at the heart of the world’s great religions” (see his article on this website, Assessing The Course.)

Ken Wilber, the contemporary philosopher and theoretical psychologist characterizes the perennial philosophy as “…the single most accurate reflection of reality yet to appear.” Elsewhere, Wilber writes “all of the world’s great wisdom traditions are basically variations of the perennial philosophy.” (A Theory Of Everything, Shambhala 2000, Notes for Chapter 4, p. 158; The Eye Of The Spirit,” Shambhala, 1998, Chapter 1, p 43.)
